Getting a baby to look into a smartphone camera lens is not an easy feat, but it can be done. Here are three simple tips to photograph your baby like a pro:

A small and familiar toy can be used to capture a child's attention for a quick smartphone photo.

Small Toy
A small toy can be the trick to get a baby’s focus and attention. It is best to have something that crinkles, rings like a bell, a tambourine, anything that makes a noise and gets the baby’s attention pleasantly, so as not to started them.

The idea is to get something that keeps the baby’s focus while you continuously take photographs. Holding down the shutter button will capture the baby in “burst mode,” so it is a good idea to keep the toy directly above the lens so the baby can focus as closely as possible and it looks as though the baby is looking at the viewer.

2. Your Voice
A pleasing, familiar voice calling to the baby will get the baby’s attention, as well. A mother’s voice or someone who the baby is familiar and comfortable with

You can call to the baby, make a clicking sound, kissing sound, anything that the baby is happy with and familiar with. Don’t raise your voice out of frustration to get the baby’s attention if they are distracted, as it will only make matters worse. The baby should trust you and want to look your way, and hopefully smile at the camera!

3. Stay out of the light
Take a look around you to see what the baby will be looking at when you aim your smartphone at them to grab a shot. If you are standing in front of a light, step to the side, or move the smartphone, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, you don’t want to have the baby looking at the light source. Try to keep the baby from looking directly into a light source.

If your smartphone is in front of the light, you will see an awful shadow over the baby’s face, which is the most precious memory you will want to capture. Move the phone and say no to shadows.

It’s important to have light in your photos to make a memorable, well-lit shot, but you don’t have to have the light work against you by its placement, or your smartphone’s placement.

By following these three simple tips, you will be better prepared to catch your baby’s attention with your smartphone, and have a better tool with continuous photos, rather than single photos. Never miss your baby’s precious moments with your smartphone. The memory will last a lifetime.
